Practice is the Best Way to Succeed

"Take it down! Take it down!" My flight instructor yelled at me when he saw my radio control model airplane flying too high. I tried to control my airplane as he instructed me. But the airplane seemed to be out of control. "Okay, turn off the engine and make an emergency landing now," said my instructor. But that was too late. The airplane continuously flew without control. Finally, my instructor grabbed my transmitter (controller) and performed an emergency landing. After a couple of tries to control it, he landed the airplane safely. Thereafter, he shook his head with both hands pointing at the sky, and said, "You need to practice more if you want to become a good pilot, Randy." Yes, he is right because practice is a very important factor and the best way to succeed to whichever goal we set forth.

Like the way my instructor has advised me, Fullerton College has been requesting many students of some specific classes to perform a project, which called "International Epicure." This project will help the students to have some opportunities to practice what they have learned in their classes to create a Web site for the Internet. For example, my class, ESL 186 Advanced Composition Online, wrote the reports of activities relating to students who were involved to the project. Graphic design designed a Logo for this Web site, etc…

Practice will help us to recall what we have learned or trained in the class. Fred Pierskalla, a student of Graphic Design at Fullerton College, said, " After a long semester, I might forget what I studied from the beginning of semester. But when I am performing this project, I have to recall or have to look back in the textbook or my notes to find information to apply for this project." Not only him, some other students also had similar experiences. At first, they seemed unhappy with the project, but later on, the practice helped them to recall almost everything they had learned in class. To finish my interview, Fred Pierskalla concluded, "The practice for this project surely will help me to recall what I have learned and also will support myself to finish my final test easily."

Practice helps people to get more experience. One of the other students, Margo Martinet of the Graphic Design class at Fullerton College reported, " I did not know what the Logo for a restaurant was. After I tried to design it, it looked weird to me at first. Then later on, after many times of redesigning it, I got more enlightened. In addition, I also learned from my mistakes. As a result, I finally finished it." Like myself, writing an essay is the most difficult thing for me to express my ideas. I had to write my essay many times then corrected and edited it over and over again. I made a lot of mistakes. But after making a mistake, that was a good chance for me to learn and get more experiences to complete my essay. Studying only is not enough to succeed for our goal setting, but if we practice repeatedly what we have studied, we will have more experiences to avoid the next mistakes and on the way to succeed for our goals.

Practice will help us to succeed in our career. Not only writing the basic essay, but we also learned how to write reports in our ESL composition class. As you know, in the office or factory, employees need to know their valuable information or some good news. The boss needs to know the result of a project, or people in the nation need to know what is going on in scenes from television stations such as, "The Colorado Shooting" or "The Suicide Mission", or a police chase on the Pomona freeway, etc… They will need someone to write the reports to inform the news to the people. As a part of this project, I am practicing to write you a report to inform you of the activities of some students who are in the Graphic design class to create the Logo for this project. By this practice, I am sure that it will help me to succeed in the future especially for my career.

In conclusion, listening to a perfect speech of the president of United States seems to be normal, but we do not know how many times he had to practice it before the final speech. Playing a good song is normal for a music band, but we do not know that they had to spend a lot of time to practice it. You are reading my report that seems to be easy for you to read, but you do not know that it took me a long time to think and practice to write for you to understand it. So the practice is surely the most important factor to succeed to our goals. That is also important as the project that Fullerton College is requesting the students to complete. So let’s practice now!
