ESL-English Class interviews Students in the French Class who worked on International Epicure project.

International Epicure

The Virtual Epicure web site was designed by the Fullerton College students. This wonderful web site
which was made by the joint efforts of the students from different academic departments at Fullerton
College can potentially be a great place for all people to visit. The students of the French class were one
group of students who worked hard to make this web site more interesting. The French class students not
only enjoyed spending time on the web site, but at the same time this web site caused the students to
increase their knowledge. Improving their knowledge in the French language, learning the recipes of the
French meals and learning the way to participate in group activities are the most important advantages that
this web site brought for the students.

Learning new French vocabulary by this group of students was the first advantage of making this web
site. They were told that they had to translate the ingredients of the given French meals from English to
French. Looking for the words in dictionary and writing them in French helped them to learn new French
words. Now they know the names of lots of food items in French, and they are able to tell the ingredients
of each of these foods in this language, as well. In addition, since they cannot translate the words directly
from one language to another, this translation has enabled them to improve their sentence knowledge of
French sentence structures and idiomatic expressions.

Improving the students' knowledge of the French meals was another advantage of this great project. Not
only did this informative look into the French cuisine help them learn about the French culture and their
foods, but they were also learned how to cook the delicious French meals. By finding the ingredients of
those meals, this group of French students are now able to make delicious French foods such as Flambee
with Grand Marnier and steak in their homes. In addition, they learned the ingredients of Quiche, which is
another popular French food. Now they are able to serve this food for their guests and be proud of
cooking such delicious food for them.

Giving the opportunity of having a group activity is one other advantage which made this web site
educational. The participation in this project helped the students to learn one more helpful thing which is
nothing but learning to participate in a team and use group learning as a way to explore and evaluate new
ideas. We all have to participate in the group works sometime in our lives. This project helped all of us to
experience a group activity and to learn a right way to participate while we are students.

In conclusion, the Virtual Restaurants web site and its creator helped all of us to improve our knowledge
of many different things, and it will be a great place for all of us to visit. Thanks Drs. Yamaguchi and
Collopy-O'Donnell for helping us to experience a group activity.
