Services Offered:

Preschool for blind and visually impaired children ages six months to six years with sighted peer models.  Family support service and counseling.  Orientation and mobility and occupational therapy services are also offered.

 

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Special arrangements can be made.  Please call.

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

A commitment of four hours a week for one semester is required.

 

Opportunities to Observe at Organization:

Opportunities for On-site Informational Interview:

Same as above.  Subject: Early Intervention and Special Education.

Braille Institute provides people who are blind or visually impaired with the educational training, programs, and services they need to enjoy full, productive, and independent living.

Opportunities to Observe at Organization:

While no formal observations are available, informative campus tours are conducted Monday through Friday by appointment only.  Call Donna Wager at (714) 821-5000 to set up a tour.

Speech and hearing services for children and adults.

 

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Assist with anything from paperwork for development department to working with children in San Jose Preschool or the Clinical Preschool (must have fingerprints and TB test prior to this).  Also, must be eighteen or older.

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Same as above.  Fingerprints and TB test paid for by Providence if volunteer chooses to stay long-term.
