Services Offered:

Mental health assessment counseling.  Individual, group, collateral and family therapy for emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children. 

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Except for working in waiting room, all long-term options require five to ten hours per week for one year.  Several of CGC’s programs are partially staffed by volunteer interns on a continual basis.  These programs include a series of therapy groups designed to develop greater self-esteem and self-control and to develop more positive, effective social interaction skills.

Twenty-four hour hotline that provides telephone counseling, including help with substance abuse, suicide prevention, marriage, family and child problems, and food or housing difficulties.  Also offers counseling referrals. 

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Crisis intervention volunteers needed.  Six-month commitment requested, four to five hours per week.

Services Offered:

Psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults with mental illness.  Provide support and assistance with housing, employment, socialization and daily living skills to adults with mental illness who are trying to integrate into the community.  By building on strengths and teaching basic living skills, we provide the psychiatrically disabled with a foundation for long-term recovery.

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Agency prefers two-semester commitment, though one-semester commitment is accepted for some programs.  In most cases, weekly time commitment is negotiable.  Varied volunteer programs available.  Students can help with recreational activities as a club house assistant; facilitate pscyhosocial rehabilitation groups as a Club House Rehab Group Leader; assist homeless adults suffering from mental illness as a Homeless Program Assistant; provide support and follow-up to high functioning psychiatrically disabled adults who are in semi-independent transitional living enviroments as a Housing Assistant Program; ensure that involuntarily detained mentally ill patients have the opportunity to express their own views regarding hospitalization as a Hearing advocate; offer structure and support in weekly club meetings as a Room and Boards facilities as a Room & Board Review Committee Membe, and as an Outreach Program Volunteer you will go out into the community and help psychiatrically disabled adults obtain services. The Clubhouse is a place where people with mental illnesses or in recovery can come to live their lives wholly and creatively.  The Clubhouse focuses on everyday living and getting on with life.  The Clubhouse staff offers workshops to clients and organizes activities for socializing.

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Four hours per week minimum.  Assist with clerical work, child care, data entry, interpreting and preparing educational materials/brochures.  Do public speaking and/or participate in “Big Brother/Big Sister” program for troubled youth.  Assist in therapy sessions.

Assisting our recreation leaders, providing various activities for children ages 5-12 which include arts and crafts, cooperative games, sports, and special events in the Playgorunds program. Assiting our recreation specialist, providing activities, excursions, and supervision of mentally/physically handicapped children and adults in the Adaptive Recreation Program. Assisting in special events and assisting with hot lunch program for senior services. Individuals and groups are invited to paint out graffitti from various locations throughout the city for the Graffiti Program.  Assistance in Special Events.
