ESL classes and job counseling and placement for refugees, health outreach, youth program after school and Saturday life skills, Cambodian language and dance.

 

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Act as tutors and mentors.  Assist with teaching ESL classes and community service.  Work in computer lab and playroom.

Social Assistance Program for Vietnam (SAP-VN)

Services Offered:

We have several programs that serve disadvantaged people in Vietnam, especially disabled children.  We collect medical supplies from health care product companies and send these to hospitals in Vietnam; we find sponsors to give corrective surgery for disabled children.  We provide financial support for corrective surgery of cleft-palate children.  We provide financial support for several mobile health-care groups and community health clinics that serve basic health care services to poor people living in the countryside.  We also have additional miscellaneous projects.  In America, we mainly do fund raising to support the above services.

 

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Prepare quarterly news bulletin to be sent to supporters and potential donors.  Collect donation boxes located at several local restaurants and markets.  Participate in fund raising events.  Collect and ship medical supplies and medical textbooks.

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Same as above.

World Relief

Services Offered:

We are a local affiliate office of the international relief and development arm of the National Association of Evangelicals.  Locally, in the Greater LA/Orange County area, we provide initial resettlement services to refugees who have been approved by the US Dept. of State to reunite with family members or close friends in the area.  We provide assistance including community services orientation, vocation/employment assistance and English as a Second Language assistance.  In addition, we seek to network with local churches to provide opportunities to serve and interact with refugees and to assist them in developing ministry services among various ethnic groups.  Our Hispanic ministry provides training to local churches to assist people in the community with questions regarding issues such as legalization, family reunification and employment authorization.

 

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities:

Assist at an established ESL site.  Occasionally, need people to go with one of our staff team to pick up and deliver donated household items to refugee families.  Prepare a Good Samaritan Kit/Welcome Basket for a newly arriving refugee family and deliver it with one of our staff.  Assist in developing, layout of local newsletter.

 

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities:

All of the above.  Mentor/tutor a refugee family in English once a week in the refugee’s home.  Assist in developing and layout of newsletter and brochures.
