Purpose
The SOFE has been reactivated in Fall 2005 at Fullerton College after a year or so. The purpose of SOFE is to educate the engineering students at Fullerton College about the different kinds of engineering majors, such as Chemical, Electrical, Genetics', and projects, and the engineering profession, in order to enhance their professional development and interest towards Engineering.
Advisors like Mrs. Claassen and Mr. Randle help the club and engineering students by always being there! whether it's a small question or concern or advice about scholarships or your classes, they are always there. We also like to connect Engineering students to Raytheon, a multibillion dollar company, working closely with students so they can guide them in pursuing their career. If you are involved with SOFE and have been in touch with Raytheon, you are setting your self up for internship and loads of SCHOLARSHIP!! opportunities before actually graduating in Engineering, and also for a career opportunity once you do graduate.
Non-related engineering activities such as Bowling, ski trips, or snowboarding to Running Springs or Big Bear are also initiated once a while to focusing on specific major-related projects like "The VIBGYOR Prism" - turns rainbow colors into white light, and the "Go-car" project. Students can learn from these projects and then even take part in Engineering competitions. Recently, SOFE members built a successful "Water Panel" project, which demonstrates how to walk on water without falling over. During the short gap between Spring 06 and Fall 06, we will be concentrating on building a "Go-car." Updates of club meetings, deadlines, and activities are posted weekly through emails, and are also reminded in the weekly meetings. Membership is very easy and this upcoming fall semester the club will always be open to admit new faces who like to compete, work in a group, and do hands-on stuff. It's all about coming together, making new friends and getting involved.
